My New SAC8 Camera

My SAC8 arrived in March 2003. On my first night out with the camera (3/08/03), my normal luck held true. Due to a combination of errors, my camera struck the pavement of my driveway. Talk about a sick feeling!!! Anyway, the kind people of SAC Imaging treated the problem as a warranty situation and fixed my little camera for the cost of postage. My camera now wears a chain and a spring loaded connector and is solidly chained to my telescope everytime it is out. It will NOT hit the driveway again!!! My results so far demonstrate my inexperience, and may be somewhat unimpressive from an artistic standpoint, but I am very excited able the capabilities of this camera. From my driveway, most of what I am imaging is virtually invisible at the eyepiece because of the light pollution in my neighborhood.

Because of the brightness of my street, (yes, I have a street light to the right of me, a street light to the left of me, and landscape lighting all around) I started with globular clusters, because with them, I can usually identify a very faint fuzzy in the eyepiece using averted vision. I was particularly excited with my shot of M104. It was the only galaxy I managed to bag that first night. I found it by doing a goto to M104 and taking pictures in a search pattern until I finally located it. It was completely invisible in the eyepiece.
