Sharpless 2-281 - The Great Orion Nebula
This image was taken with the Hyperstar 3 equipped Nexstar 11GPS on 9/09/09 under the light-polluted skies of Tempe, AZ. The camera used was the modified Canon Rebel 1000xs. This shot was taken with a Hydrogen-Alpha filter fitted into the Canon camera.
This image is a stack of over a fifty 20-second ISO-1600 subs taken with Nebulosity 2 and stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. I used Nebulosity to split the stacked image into its three color (RGB) components and used the red component for this image. The Great Orion Nebula is also known as Messier 42 and a color version can be seen on my Messier Page.
