Barnard 33 - The Horsehead Nebula
Sharpless 2-277 is actually the Flame Nebula, however, the Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) is an iconic object located so close to Sh2-277 that it is frequently shown in the same image as the Flame. This image of the Horsehead was taken with the Hyperstar 3 equipped Nexstar 11GPS on 10/14/09 under the light-polluted skies of Tempe, AZ. The camera used was the modified Canon Rebel 1000xs. This shot was taken with a Hydrogen-Alpha filter fitted into the Canon camera. Yes, I know that the Horsehead is not really a Sharpless object, but I still like this shot of the famous Horsehead and I needed a place to put it...
This image is a stack of about 100 20-second ISO-1600 subs taken with Nebulosity 2 and stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. I used Nebulosity to split the stacked image into its three color (RGB) components and used the red component for this image.
