Sharpless 2-117 - The Pelican Nebula
Actually, Sharpless 2-117 encompasses both the North America Nebula and also the Pelican Nebula. Both of these objects are huge. This image of the Pelican Nebula was taken with the Hyperstar 3 equipped Nexstar 11GPS on 10/14/09 under the light-polluted skies of Tempe, AZ. The camera used was the modified Canon Rebel 1000xs. This shot was taken with a Hydrogen-Alpha filter fitted into the Canon camera.
This image is a stack of over 100 20-second ISO-1600 subs taken with Nebulosity 2 and stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. I used Nebulosity to split the stacked image into its three color (RGB) components and used the red component for this image.
