M51 - The Whirlpool Galaxy
This shot was taken with the Hyperstar 3 equiped Nexstar GPS 11 under the relatively dark skies of Dewey Arizona on 03/02/10. This was image is the result of stacking three stacks of about 50 each of 12-second, 15-second, and 17-second subs using Deep Sky Stacker.
M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy is 15 million light years away and is known to be the finest example of a face-on spiral galaxy in our night skies. The galaxy measures about 50,000 light years across and shines with the light of about 10 billion suns.
