Caldwell 63 - The Helix Planetary Nebula
This image was taken with the Hyperstar 3 equipped Nexstar 11GPS on 8/01/09 under the relatively dark skies of Dewey, AZ. The Helix Nebula is about 700 light years away, and nebula spans an area of about 2 and a half light years across. This nebula has also been called The Eye of God.
The camera used was the modified Canon Rebel 1000xs. This image is a stack of over a hundred 17-second ISO-1600 subs stacked in Nebulosity 2. The Helix Nebula is also known as NGC 7293.
